Why Choose Professor Dasgupta

The expertise, the platform, the team.

Choosing who treats your prostate cancer is the most important decision you will make. Here is what sets this practice apart.

I

A UK pioneer of prostate cancer surgery

Over 17 years of dedicated robotic experience — Professor Dasgupta led the first robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy programme in the UK, and continues to treat prostate cancer at the highest level.

II

Every treatment option considered, impartially

Surgery is not always the right answer. Surveillance, radiotherapy, hormone therapy and surgery are all weighed against your grade, stage and priorities before anything is recommended.

III

The first private hospital in the UK for robotic surgery

The London Clinic established the country's first private robotic surgery service — now with the latest da Vinci Xi system, installed November 2020.

IV

In-house specialist medical team

Trained urology nurses for pelvic floor exercises, a consultant colleague for penile rehabilitation, and an expert anaesthetist for pre-treatment assessment.

V

Bespoke, personalised patient care

From the first phone call to your follow-up appointments, your care is led by Professor Dasgupta personally.

VI

Excellent outcomes & patient feedback

Consistently strong oncological and functional results, with patient testimonials reflecting the calibre of care.

Prostate Cancer Treatment Options

Every treatment option, explained plainly.

Prostate cancer is not one disease. The right treatment depends on the grade and stage of your cancer, your PSA, your age and what matters most to you.

Monitoring Patient monitor in a clinical room, used during active surveillance reviews

Active surveillance

For cancer that is small, slow-growing and confined, treatment can reasonably be deferred and the disease monitored instead. That means regular PSA tests, scans and repeat biopsies rather than an operation.

Radiotherapy & brachytherapy

External beam radiotherapy or implanted seeds can match surgery for cure in the right patient. Professor Dasgupta does not deliver it himself — if it is the better answer for you, he will say so plainly and refer you to a specialist colleague.

Hormone therapy

Used alongside radiotherapy, or where cancer has spread beyond the prostate, to slow the disease by lowering testosterone. Side effects and how long you would need it are discussed openly before you start.

Focal therapy

For carefully selected men with a single area of disease, treating the tumour rather than the whole gland can reduce side effects. You will be told honestly whether you are a suitable candidate.
